Spain on Fire

The Spanish Empire of the 16th and 17th centuries blendedChristian, Muslim, Jewish and American influences, creating a rich musical culture. Composers such as Antonio de Cabezón, Mateo Flecha, José Marín, Gaspar Sanz and Luis de Briceño wrote works that were often skeleton scores, brought to life through glosas, ornamentation and improvisation. Accademia del Piacere, led by Fahmi Alqhai with soprano Quiteria Muñoz, revives this tradition, exploring its virtuosity, expressiveness, and improvisatory spirit.
